Editor: Our government is committed to inclusive schools and we believe that all students deserve the right to be treated fairly.

Far too many LGBTQ youth face bullying, discrimination, and prejudice. We are proud to support SOGI 1 2 3, which aims to provide teachers and school districts with the supports they need to crate safe and inclusive learning environments for all students.

SOGI education and initiatives make B.C.’s schools safer and more inclusive environments. SOGI is about ensuring schools are safe places for everyone-it’s that simple. That’s why it’s sad to think that people still feel the need to oppose efforts that promote tolerance and inclusion in schools.

We know that bullying against students because of their sexual orientation causes a great deal of pain and suffering – and it’s time this stops.

I want to thank parents and students in Langley who are supporting SOGI education and LGBTQ rights. It’s our responsibility to ensure schools are safe and inclusive environments, where all people can express themselves without fear of discrimination or harassment. Also, thank you to the Langley school district for moving forward with SOGI education and to parents and students who rallied to help ensure all students feel safe in B.C’s schools, regardless of where they identify on the sexual orientation or gender identity spectrums.
